I want to know whether there are sites offering free images that can be used in a website. I have done lot of searching regarding this but I have found sites offering royalty free images that cost around $1 each.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanx :)

SXC (http://www.sxc.hu/) - great community, great stock photography. I'm getting ready to start submitting a slew of some stock shots I've been doing over the past few months.

Some months ago I desperately needed some 'brickface' tiling background images for a mock-up web site to show a prospective client, -searched the 'net for something that was royalty and loyalty-free (no cost, and didn't required the obligatory 'yes, you can use my images but ask me first and then, put a link in your site back to my site' caveat. I don't like those so much for mundane things like 'background image'... I mean, -what next? -Creditations for colored borders gotten from site X? Shees.. (I can see it now... (feigning deep radio-voice commentator: ) -Portions of this site were brought to you by the color green, and the letter a...

Well, I did finally find a brickwall tiling image that met all my useage criteria...
-Turned out prospective client was not overwhelmingly interested in actually having a web presence after all and I grew tired & frustrated with him not liking what I was presenting and furthermore, not telling what he'd prefer. So, we walked away from each other.
Since then I got a digital camera and take my own pics & make my own tiling background images. Here, a very small sampling of free for use without any constraint except right-click & copy to your own site. No link, no asking for permission. Just free.

Do not 'hot link' to thse images, please.

But there are many online places to buy and post/host your own images... I have oft thought of taking digital snapshots of cityscape and country, sandy beaches, nature, etc. and posting them to such a site for 'creative commons' useage. Some places you can post images, and that place 'sells' useage (for a dollar or two, or 'exclusivity' for a sumly fee and the image is 'locked', -never to be sold again..) . For the multi-use, you can get maybe one-tenth of every 'sale' back as 'royalty' payments. Site sends you check or paypal when a certain sum is acquired. Some people have many dozens (or hundreds!) of images with hundreds (or thousands!) of 'purchases' recorded... -A genuine cash-cow situation. :D

I have been a web designer for the past 4 years and recently I stumbled across http://www.stampsandphotos.com

Click on the Photobox link after getting into the website..thats where the meat is

Fundu website!!!!!!!!!!

Offers high quality JPEG images without any restrictions to use them. These images can be used for commercial or personal use and they dont ask for any credits. No back links no nothing.

This website has grouped the images into categories, and best of all you dont have to fill any forms to download the images...No registration...just browse and use...

I would recommend this website to any web designer who wants to create a professional website with high quality images.

The categories of pictures more or less covers ones need but you can also recommend more...and they will be added there...

Great service..the loading of the website is really fast..you get to see all the thumbnails on a single page and you can open which ever one you like in a new window and save it to your disk.
