I'm a newbie to the web biz and am a bit overwhelmed by the number of web hosting companies out there. I could use some advice on what to look for and how to choose.

First, I don't want a free host - I know there are some good ones, but I don't need the hassles that go along with the freebies.

I can't afford more than $10 - $15 a month. I'm not sure of all that I need, but obviously would like to get the best value for my money.

So, any suggestions?

Thanks.

Ted

Thanks for the responses.

I guess I wasn't very clear in my request.

I've found several good hosting plans, but I'm not sure what features to look for in a good plan. There are some common features I've seen, such as CGI Bin, SSI, stats, PHP, Perl, Shopping carts, etc., but which features are the ones that I would really need to put up other people's web sites and which features are bells and whistles. If I can, I'd like to avoid having to transfer my sites in the near future because the host just doesn't cut it.

Thanks again.

I highly reccommend DR2.net
For $32/yr you can get all the features you just listed, and a domain name. You get MySQL, cPanel, FTP, e-mai, preinstalled message boards, its awesome.
And the admin is always on the message board. If your having trouble installing a script he will walk you through it or in some cases even install it for you.
