patent or copyright

I have a question.

If I create a website which does something unique on the internet and no other website is doing that, can I somehow protect the idea and copyright it or even patent it?

My guess is contact a lawyer, expensive, but it will get done correctly. If your product is amazing you don't want to forget to dot your i's and and cross your t's. It could cost you Millions in lost sales...

A patent would be the way to go, I believe amazon did something similar in patenting their 3 click system.

Not sure where you are, but in the UK you can file your own patent, but I think it's got to be very detailed, so your best speaking to a lawyer or solictor.
