iGrins (http://www.igrins.com)

I opened this site up to the public and even advertised via Google adwords but I still only got about 5 real members. The others I added myself. I was eventually planning to add a few google ads on the side but I just couldn't get anyone to join

I'm using php and javascript. One interesting note is that Im using AJAX for the picture cropping functionality. Login to "sara's" profile if you want to test it. Use userid "sara" and password "password".

I was going for a very simple design where the pages themselves were comprised of mostly users pictures. The main page will support multiple pages of users. Too bad I only have 12  . I'll add more when I get around to it.

also, registration is currently closed for the site.

Should you be adding "fake" members? Is that really a "good" business practice?

No problem. I was just curious to hear the group's response to that....

Ya, that's bad. Borderline scamming imho

How is it scamming if it's 100% free?

What is the point of the site? Just to show your face? So far only pretty girls (which you added) so I am guessing it's for women who want to become models, yet there is no way of contacting the person.

...Never mind, I saw and read the "about" section. Guess I was right then :) but you could maybe create a tagline just to let people know what the site is without actually having to look it up somewhere.

About the "fake" members, I think it is acceptable in the beginning. I did it with my dating site, although I explained in the ad that it was not real and the point was just to show how a finished ad looks like. I see a lot of sites add their own fake ads to make their pages seem more popular and that is sad and aggravating.

Yeah, a tagline would probably be a good idea.

If you register as a scout, you can add models' profiles to your favorites and you can contact the model which uses the models email (hidden) to send them a contact message. The scouts profile page instead of having pictures of the scout has a list of all of his/her favorites.

You might come up with some guidelines and restrictions in writing for using the service -- namely, no postings by someone under 18. Right now, you don't really have a clear statement about that. By law, you're not supposed to post any information about children under 13 -- I'm not sure what it is for teens, but I'm sure it's close.
"Modeling" sites are some of the most popular with pedifiles. If someone uses your site to find some underage girl, contact her, and then do something bad, you could end up in quite a bit of trouble.

Just wanted to warn you -

Well, the registration doesn't allow anyone under 18 to join, just to avoid those sort of things. But really, this would be no different than mySpace or any of these other online communities that allow posting pictures and contacting and they allow under 18.

My original idea was to think of what groups of people wanted exposure and there face out there in front of people. The 2 groups I thought of was models and real estate agents.

I'm worked on the real estate thing now with a find nearest agent from a particular zip code. Real estate agents spend tons of money sending out flyers and other stuff to get their face out there in front of people. Maybe they would be more likely to join a free agent search site.
