Hi all. Im a complete noob with photoshop and need a little help if pos?

I've sampled an image, turnt it to a black & white image and then copied the file into a different PSD document. However, now that Ive pasted it into my layers, all other layers have gone black & white too :confused:

Can anyone help please? thanks in advance

When you convert an image to grayscale, all layers within the image will convert to grayscale too. You can't individually convert one layer to grayscale.

The easiest way to do what you want is to duplicate the original image. Change one image to grayscale and copy paste the layer to wherever. And the other image is your color original to do as you please.

I think when you create your document you might have the "graycale" still selected
remember that your document should always stay in CMYK or RGB ... if you want colors

If you need to take off all the colors in a layers, instead of creating a anorther document and turn it in grayscale and put it bak in your color document, just select the layer you want to turn it to black/white
Select "image" -> "Adjustments" and choose "Hue/Saturation" (command+U)
and put the saturation to -100 or some people prefer to click in the same "Hue/Saturation" panel, clic "colorize" and put 0 / -100 / 0
