I am in the process of re-creating our college's web site and I am creating a list of graphic / media / type standards that must be followed. Now most if not all of them will be enforced by CSS, but they need to writen down and made official.

Most of them seem to be no-brainers, like "no flashing text", "no photos over a certain size", but I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to ones that may easily be overlooked, or that you thought was a good idea but then later had to change.

Thanks.

Standards are W3C (http://www.w3.org/) and ECMAScript (http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-262.htm)

But none of the browsers (IE mainly) follow entirely the standards, at least not for the moment. Unfortunatelly you should learn all the differences (and the solutions to bypass the differences) to be able to complete a crossbrowser job.

I have a series of articles you might find helpful:

Also, look into Accessibility standards. Many educational institutions, like fed. gov. agencies, are being encouraged to be ADA/508 compliant online. I foresee, not in the distant future, that being an actual requirement.
