Shopping Cart

I'm not completely sure that this is the place to post my question, but I'm trying to find some examples of how to program a shopping cart function for my webpage. I'm assuming CGI would be the best way to do it. Does anyone know of any sites or examples? What are your opinions as to the best language to program this in?
