Hi,

I've got a client who has got a site that advertises other businesses (he eventually plans to charge for this advertising), but whilst his website is in its early stages he's giving free advertising squares away. Would he need to contact each company he wants to advertise to get consent or can he just link to their sites without getting consent?

Thanks

First, I'm going to move this to business matters, since that's the more appropriate topic.

Second, I suggest that each company be contacted. It could be that they would not approve of your website, which is rare but does happen -- like if they don't approve of the way it looks (like it looks really unprofessional) or contains questionable content. It's really a courtesy. It would also be a nice way for your client to form some sort of partnership with the company, and open him/herself up to perks in the future.
