IE7 would still be a better choice than IE6 even if IE7 had 100 security holes identified in it because IE7 is much closer to following the standards than IE6 and IE6 has at least 600 indentified and unplugable security holes. Of course Forefox 1.0 would be about as much better as a choice than IE7 as IE7 is compared to IE6 and Opera 9 (or Firefox 2.0) would be half as much better again.

Microsoft have started work on IE8 which judging on past performance may be equivalent to Firefox 1.5 but by then Firefox 3 and Opera 11 should be out so they will still be lagging behind but maybe not by quite so much.

Information Week (http://www.informationweek.com/windows/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=193401122):
The number of businesses allowing employees to download the Firefox Web browser soared this year, and at least one analyst believes the recently released Internet Explorer 7 could boost use of Firefox in companies.

I read from Micrsoft Watch, I think, that IE8 won't come out for two years minimum.

well, i still don't understand why they did not develop any browser in 5 years!?

They had 95% of the market and were giving the browser away and so any development would have cost them money with little possible return. Now that IE users have dropped below 80% (below 65% on my site) there is some ground to be made up if they can get people to swap back to IE but since IE7 is already 4 years out of date they aren't going to gain much ground with that hence the continuation toward IE8. They are making the effort because they want their users back but they may have left it too late since they have six yerars of development to squeeze into the next two in order for IE8 to match Firefox 4.0 in functionality.

IE7 is already 4 years out of dateIn January it will be nine years out of date including DOM support, unless this has changed recently.

I meant to say AT LEAST 4 years out of date, I haven't looked at IE7 closely enough to check exactly where it stands relative to the standards. All the browsers are running at least a little behind the current standards anyway.

Right when I sat down in front of this computer here at school, a friend of mine said IE7 was released from beta. Apparently he has contacts in Microsoft, and I was bombarded with his IE7--promo--LIES! I'm sending him this video.

I'm definitely not going to install IE7. Of course I use FireFox, but when designing pages, I want to test in the normal--miserable--IE rendering engine rather than a fluffier, miserable one Viva Firefox! (Y Opera también):)

I installed it after seeing an article that they delayed the forced install so that developers can check out their websites and make any changes that you may need to do before everyone gets it via their windows updates.

I found no problems on my sites however it scares me that they have such little faith in their program that they have to warn everyone before forcing it on them.

I have to say though that it is a huge leap for them and a nice update. However (before the flames erupt) I'm only comparing it to their previous version of IE when I say that. It is a total rip off of what is already out there.

The way the fonts look in it is really getting on my nerves. I can't see anyone who has changed from IE going back even if you told me it had NO security problems.

BRING ON FIREFOX 2.0 BABY!! Official launch is supposed to be tomorrow. Anyone know what timezone?? I'm thinking I can get it tonight on West Coast of the US.
