I have aweb site and it is hosted by tripod.com, that means no domain.

I also have meta name keywords, but when I search for any of the keyword on any search engine I could not find my site. Why ? and what can I do?
Is it because the site starts with: http// and not www. or is there another reason?

Thank you for your help.

As far as I know you can still get listed. tripod.com is a domain. It is a bit easier if you have your own but that won't stop you for now.

How long ago have you submitted to the search engines for listing consideration? I guess first I should ask - Have you submitted to the sites for listing?

Free listing requests can takes days, sometimes weeks or months before you see anything.

Never used Tripod before but I would assume Lycos would list you quickly since it is their service.

Also make sure you have the meta for 'Description' and your 'Title' in the head. Make sure you also have good content(keywords) in your page(s).

Search engines take no notice of meta keywords - it's just too easy to fake them. As poiuy said, get the keywords into your pages... and into the meta title... and into the meta description.

Another way of getting your site listed it to get a link from a website that is already listed.

I doubt if the fact that you're using a free host has anything to do with it. I do a lot of searches and I see free-hosted sites in the top results sometimes.

Create a site map and submit it to the different search engines, and also utilize Google's site map tool. Get backlinks from sites that are similar to yours, but avoide places like link farms because they could actually hurt your Google page rank. When you ask for backlinks from other sites try to get a keyword in the anchor text from the other site. How many legitimate sites that link to your site plays a major role in your page rank. Google will probably take the longest to index your site, but that's from my experience, so don't forget to add your site to the other search engines via your site map and also look for some directories to add your site to. And, don't forget the other pages of your site, also try to get links to the pages other than your index.

You can do a quick search of "site map generator" to find some tools that will generate different types of site maps for your site.

Although submiting for inclusion is an option, search engines generally like to find your site through links from other sites, so I'd start by submitting your site to some directories, and then getting into some more advanced link-building techniques if that doesn't work. Once your in the club, you can use many of the tips offered above to enhance your listing rank.

When I searched for my site it wasnt there either. It takes a few days to acknowledge it Because when I looked a week or so later it was there. That also goes for any chaanges you may make to the meta tag---they will not show right away.

Hosting it on Tripod will hurt you long-term but ultimately isn't the reason why your site isn't indexed. Changing ur meta tags will not reflect on the search engine results until a few months down the road, so be patient. I suggest you sign up for a cheap web host and get ur own domain. Get tons of links and Google will start indexing your pages.

I glanced through the site, -I do not recall seeing a single "header tag" anywhere in the document. <h> tags are very important, -the 'summarize' the sections, and are a prime source of "keywords" for spider-'bots/search engines crawling your site.

Also, this is a "list":
<p><strong>Linesworth&nbsp;</strong><br />
&bull;Incorporated in 1997 <br />
&bull;Full-fledged, medium-sized Agency</p>
<p>&bull;Member AAAN (Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria) <br />
&bull;Strong Creative Background <br />
&bull;Quick on Response. <br />

&bull;Thorough in detail <br />
&bull;Strong Marketing and Communications Orientation <br />
&bull;Cost-Efficient.</p>
<p><strong>Philosophy</strong></p>....etc

it belong in a <ul> format. Not only does that make the text more readable, it is more index-able.

<ul>
<li></li>
<li></li>
<li></li>
<li></li>
<li></li>(etc.
<ul>

And you get away from un-necessary markup/page-bloat, because you just did away with all those "<br />" and "&#bull;" because you are using a <ul>.

Meta tags are largely ignored by search engines these days, -too easy to spoof, but you CAN mess-up your ranking by "spammin" the meta data tags... text longer than maybe 56 words to describe the description, or repeating a word more than 5-times is "spamming" and some sites like tripod will 'boot your site' for doing that. Even 'spamming' the content is wrong (using keywords and in the same color as the background, -searchable yes, but no visible to the human visitor, is considered "spamming" the search engine...)

I could on & on about the dozens of ways to improve your site ranking, but GOOD CONTENT, Valid links with GOOD DESCRIPTOR TEXT (instead of "Click Here", use text to describe the link, like "<a href="Johns_tools">John's Tool Discount Warehouse</a> makes FAR, FAR more sence than a 'blind link' to John's that says "Click Here". A SEARCH engine ignores that... and someone looking for "tools, discount" will NEVER be taken to the page with the link that only says "Click Here". <-- BIG importance!
Use of <h> tags to 'summerize' the next section of text, navigation between pages (forward & backward) are great for indexing purposes... more.

I have made pages that, after a year or more on the internet, never came up higher than 'the low hundreds' but after doing just what I described above, within a month or two those pages now come up 3 or 4th upon several search engines (google, msn, etc.).
