Script within a script

I am having trouble making a script within a script work in IE 5.5, and Netscape 7.

The script works in netscape 4.7, but in IE 5.5, and Netscape 7, the second script shows up after the first script.

I have the second script tag split up into smaller pieces, so it doesn't see the second script tag as a whole.

Has anyone ever dealt with this?
