Hey all, Firefox 2.0 (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox) has shipped. Unfortunately it uses the same rendering engine as Firefox 1.5 (Gecko 1.8), so no new web goodies . I wanted Gecko 1.9's improved SVG support!
Anywho, I -whoah, so that's the Spell Check in action. Pretty intuitive!
Right, well, let the browser wars continue.

If you're typing many slang terms and tekkie jargons, the spellcheck will always prompt you. It can quite be annoying.
So this is not an update to 1.5? When I check for updates, there are none listed.

It will take a few days before it hits the update button. You can download it from getfirefox.com

Yes, the Mozilla foundation only has a finite number of servers! So that they can handle the load without any downtime, they stagger when update checks will recognize the new release, but you can always download it directly from the mozilla website. This way there aren't tens of millions of users downloading the browser at once when the update checker finds a new version.

...This way there aren't tens of millions of users downloading the browser at once...This is why all huge projects like Firefox should start using Bittorent. By the way, Bob, didn't the spell check highlight you missing a capital letter there?
Anyways, improved SVG support, is okay, but who's going to really use it? I have the feeling it's going to take a very long time to catch on.
Yes, but you know I have never had a problem with an automatic upgrade. I have always had problems with manual upgrades. I'll just wait a week or two ...

They do use BitTorrent, but how does that change anything? Unless you are proposing them using BitTorrent to distribute updates which is really just not practical.
Besides, SVG has a catch 22 problem, no one will use it because no browser supports it. Browsers don't properly support it because of the lack of demand. So improved SVG support is a great thing and hopefully pushes IE to implement it (Maybe? Someday? After XHTML?) and Opera to make theirs even better. As it is now, it's a very capable technology. (Check my signature, why dontcha? ;))
As for the lowercase 'M', well, I'm a lazy typer. :p

Unless you are proposing them using BitTorrent to distribute updates which is really just not practical.I was, and I guess it wouldn't be too practical for updates but a few major pieces of software (Linux ISOs, mostly) are distributed via 'Torrent and I'm sure organisations like Mozilla would stand to gain from distributing releases on 'Torrent.
Besides, SVG has a catch 22 problem.Same with lots of new technologies. Where's a good place to start with SVG? I might even give it a go.

Wouldn't they have problems assuring the security of the distribution with 'torrent?

'torrent compare a hash of the original with a hash of what gets downloaded to assure that it's the same thing. So no, I don't think so.
