Index page has to be php...any suggestions?

hello all...i have the need to add a content seed to my index page so that it is updateable at any time offisite meaning not by me....in order for the content seed to work, however, the page must be saved as php not html....

any suggestions on how BEST to have a php page load as the index????

just remove the index.html and replace it with index.php

I have yet to see any up to date server that wont do this.
