Visualizations for my site's MP3/Video player

(I'm new to flash)
Hello everyone, I am looking to learn how to create visualizations to play in synchronization with sound(mp3, video, etc.)on my site's player. I am at the very beginning of creating the player from scratch.

Questions:

1. Is this all possible with flash 8?(can I create a mp3/video player with synchronized animations/visualizations?)

2. If it is not then which technology should I be learning?

3. If yes, then where should I begin?(please give flash references for synched visualizations)

4. Is this sort of thing way out of reach for a beginner in flash?

5. If a flash design company said that they could program this for me for $500, should I just go that route.

Anything on this subject would be appreciated

I am a novice and trying to get controls
for some audio content in the site that I
am writing, using Serif Web Plus 10.
The programme allows audio/video to be
added to the site, but has no controls.
