I can't view source on any web page I visit. I've taken a couple of online training courses on basic HTML with the trainer using a syncronized browser and was able to view page source code in the training session (right click and view source). When I try to view source, I get a very brief hour glass cursor and then nothing.

I've deleted all tempory IE files including offline files and all cookies. I am running Windows 2000 professional with sp4 and IE explorer 6.0 with sp1. Logged in as adminitrator with full access rights (have double checked to make sure). Notepad is installed and not corrupt (use it for other tasks).

I'm out of ideas!

I have looked extensively through the posts to try to find a solution to my problem, and if I missed it, I'm sorry.

Thanks!

Just a guess of one possibilty:

In IE, select the "Tools" menu option and then select "Internet Options". Click the "Programs" tab. Verify that the program selected for "HTML Editor" is valid for your computer.

If you continue to have problems, download and install Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) and use it instead of IE. :)

Thanks everybody for your suggestions! After cleaning the registry and the searching through it to make sure all notepad.exe paths were correct, view source still didn't work. I tried view source on my wife's computer and it didn't work either. However, my daughter's computer can view source. All three are running windows 2000 professional, IE6 and all are updated the same. I copied my daughter's copy of notepad.exe to my desktop through our network and then copied it to my winnt directory.

When I tried to view source, it worked! So I deleted my desktop copy and tried view source again, and it DIDN'T work! Restored notepad to desktop, WORKED!

Knowing how all computers work with perfect logical sense, I deleted the notepad.exe file AND the shortcut to notepad I had on my desktop and tried to view source again. Guess what! It worked! I deleted the notepad shrtcut from my wife's desktop and view source now works on her computer too. My daughter didn't have a notepad shortcut on her desktop.

In short, if all else fails, delete the notepad shortcut from your desktop if one is there! I hope this will help others with the same problem.
