Not to put a damper on things but I've never understood why one would wish someone a "Happy Halloween". I can understand Happy New Year because you hope someone has a happy one. Even Merry Christmas. But Halloween?

What about Happy Easter! Easter? There are others.

I think the problem is these events are not always holidays and are not necessarily personal. A New Year is. Christmas can be. But what does Halloween celebrate that gives personal fulfillment?

I've always wanted to say something about that and there I did.

Really, Halloween has come to be a holiday. Come on, what is a holiday but a time to break from the norm and have fun? Halloween fits it perfectly! While some people get really stressed out and over-worry other holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, Halloween is (thankfully) free of most societal pressures. We are allowed to really just let loose and have fun! So why not wish a happy Halloween? Enjoy yourself today, it's what it's really all about!

Halloween is (thankfully) free of most societal pressures. How many people on your block are home that night but with the doors closed and lights off watching TV in the dark?

I think that Halloween is someting like #1 retail for candy/confections/treats. There's quite a bit of economy built into this holiday. iThought that it surpassed Christmas for candy sales. As for Halloween itself, -for those of us with kids in 'da house, ...no explaination is needed. For those whom do not have children, -no explaination is possible.

Besides, in the Halloween season candy becomes really cheap!
And there is no other time of year where you can find so much colored hair gel.

Erm, none that I know of, actually. In terms of trick-or-treating, people don't have a problem with it. And there really aren't that many 'tricks' around here either. The worst it gets is a couple of high school kids attacking each other with silly string. *shrug*

I think somebody here is just too old and grouchy. :p :D

That's a valid point. But, ya never know, the silly string may stain!
