Ok,

So i been posting alot recently with a few different layouts and such for the folio site ive been planning on doing for over a year now. I've came to a conclusion that it has to be a really small scale site, that just has to be updated with latest projects and news updates.

Decided to go with themes. The theme for this seasons layout will be night and day. Reason for this....the clocks just went back and the nights are fair drawing in... So the theme is called v.1.0 night and day funnily enough.

Please tell me what you think, the content will be up in the next month or so.

Thanks again.

Love web dev!

hello Alistair!

I love the artwork at the top and bottom of the page (the night and day stuff)... its simple yet interesting.

As for the rest, I am not a big fan of I-frames, mostly because they are not very friendly to older browsers and what not (as you know I am sure, since your code includes a note to those people who don't support I-frames). But I understand if there is no other option to keep your layout as you prefer... perhaps you can look into cutting your background into two main parts, a header and a footer, and then just let the center fill with content and no matter how long it gets your headers and footers can still look pretty.

Also, I recommend moving away from both tables and the javascript you use for mouseovers. CSS can solve both of these issues for you... check out some tutorials on CSS mouseovers, it can even switch images for you, and its a lot cleaner then javascript. Plus, using CSS for the menu instead of tables would be much cleaner and load faster and would be more useful in the future when tables go even further out of fashion (as in web browsers start disliking them).

anyway, great job overall and I really enjoy the artwork as I said before.

Hi Marcus,

T V much for the review....really pleased you liked the artwork. On one of the previous versions, the banner caption was "I dont claim to be an artist" LoL. So this is a lovely compliment.

The I Frames are a bit of a bummer, although i did try what you suggested in having the header and footer in seperate images, giving the ability to stretch the site as much as necessary....however being very parnicity, having the blurry night sky overlapping the bottom horizon of the nav bar and the white space was something that really did it for me....thus the reason of the iframe.

Lots of people have been saying "get into CSS" truth is mate, i havent managed to sit down and really look at it...Alot of the tutorials are quite lengthy even for the basics of CSS. It is really nice though. The garden is just amazing!

You never know, maybe some teacher at college will find the audacity to maybe go out on a limb and give us a crash course in style sheets.

Had a quick look at your posts and found the one on your site review...To return the thesis, I like the overall look of your site, yes it is very bloggish, but if that is your purpose and need of functionality then go for it.

The typeface appears a just a tad too small on a a res of 1280 by 1024 and maybe those article titles could do with brightening up, to make them stand out a wee bitty more. Love the article seperation....white line above a blueish one, blends really well.

On the whole i like it.

Well thanks for the heads up....

Those tutorials are destined one day.
