Hello,

I need a reccommendation please...

I need to host a site in the US (I'm in the UK). Can anyone suggest a good, cheap, reliable host with a decent control panel and php and mysql functionality?

It needs to have it's servers located in the US.

Thanks,
Rob.

Thanks guys. All of these sites seem to have a minimum contract period though? We don't have that over here - we just pay monthly and can quit whenever we want. Any sites in the US like that?

www.hostexcellence.com is best, also has phpmyadmin, you can pay monthly i think but its cheaper to buy a year or something if you can. and then if you quit you get the value of the time you have not used back, say you signup for year and quit after 6 months you will get half your money back

godaddy.com is cheap and reliable. They don't offer the best technical support, but if you know what you are doing that may not be an issue.

you get alot less for your money with godaddy than IXwebhosts or hostexcellence i find.

I need to warn everyone off of www.gisol.com

I have just had a horrendous time with their customer service department - they are they WORST call center I have ever dealt with. They even put me through to a porn line to get rid of me! Unbelievable!

Do not use GIS!!!!

GoDaddy is the way to go definitely. When I started, a friend told me about them. I have yet to find another hosting company that offers the amount of webspace per dollar. For $100 you can have 5GB of hosting for 3 years. $75 for 2 years and $36 for 1 year (I think). If you need a ton of email addresses or multiple domains, it may not be the best bang for your buck, but for simple hosting its best. Their customer support is great I always get an answer back in 24 hours. The best part is if you signup for free offers, and you are a web designer, its the best thing I did. Usually 2 times a week they have some sort of sale like $10 off of any order over $50 or 15% off of anything $70 and over.

GoDaddy is not great. One of our clients was migrating their app and database to GoDaddy. There were all kinds of problems and the support service could not answer most of their questions.

I use GoDaddy myself (signed up before the problem with the client) and I find the site difficult to navigate and the tools difficult to find.

Try Godaddy. It's cheap, reliable, and PHPadmin enabled.
