I am sorry if this appears to be a really basic question but I am just getting started and would really appreciate any help!

I am endeavouring to insert a multi level sidebar menu into my webpage which I am designing using FrontPage and notepad.

To do this I have been instructed to insert some text into the body of the page (done) but then upload 5 different files into the 'webpage directory'. Is this only available once the site is hosted? Where do I upload them to and how? What is the webpage directory!?

As you can see I am very much a novice!

Thank you in advance for any help!

Yes, its only available on the host, where you site resides. You upload them to the initial remote directory (your host will tell you) with an FTP client or Front page. The web page directory is where all your files reside on the server.

When you made your first page with Front Page and saved it I think you will find that FP will have automatically created a couple of other folders within your web site folder with names such as _vti_cnf and _vti_pvt. There may have been others including possibly an images folder.

A new file for each page you make and save will appear in these folders - these files seem to contain information telling the page how to load and behave. I know that I change one of my pages and upload it without uploading the appropriate vti file that the changes do not take effect - they must be uploaded together.

Cheers
