the other day i like a n00b clicked on a .exe i downloaded without scanning it.
BANG system full of spyware etc...
it took me 16+ hours to get rid of it i had managed to get "smitfraud" which seems to be the most advance piece of malware ever invented (well its the most annoying little **** iv ever come accross) not that i get malware much i keep my system pretty secure and up to date.
be careful what you click on malware can catch out the most advance user when your caught off guard.
im not going to write the whole story again i blogged it

anyone else had some really bad experiences?
i thought it was going to be a backup and format job

funny how my linux system never get any viruses or malwareI use FreeBSD but I've been playing with Linux on my nieces notebook. It also is 'funny' how everything makes sense on non-Windows systems, too.

I want just ten minutes alone in a room with whoever it is that writes some of this malware... just him, me and a very big baseball bat!

Look what Google is doing now (http://www.google.com/interstitial?url=http://www.lyricsandsongs.com/song/177256.html) if you google certain links known to contain spyware or virii.

ok... I got a virus on my mac.... I ran scans using norton antivirus 2007 couldn't find anything... Tryed deleteing manually... and I killed the mac...
We can gather 2 things from this...
1) Macs suck at killing viruses when they gt them,
and
2) make sure i stay away from your mac :D

ok... I got a virus on my mac....
I am ever so tempted to say ner ner ne ner ner...
...except that right now I've got something on my PC that's slipped past my anti-virus, my firewall, S&D Tea Timer and even Microsoft's new WindowsLive thingmy . Nothing's showing up on Hijack This either, but something's not right, and NSIS keeps re-installing itself (bastards!).
Ah well... I've got no life and nothing to do this weekend so a system rebuild might be in order.

No, in the world of internet security you have two types of systems, those that work and those that say they work and unfortunate but Norton isnt on of those that works too well.
Any system anylist, system designer and those who have time served serving and security under their belts will also agree that Norton is to security as a chocolate tea pot is to tea...
A mac is just a computer and it is just as vunerable to viruses, for years I have heard arguments for why and because and they just dont hold up, it really is about time that MAC users suffered the same as PC users and find out just how insecure Macs really are, just like any computer is.
It is imp[ortant to note that you cant simply delete a virus off the hard drive as it will be active in memory or if its a boot infector, everytime you power up, the lil bast**d will be waiting for you....
I would try another AV program...

yeah, Though if you shut down all the prosseses and redo the MBR then delete the virus it is all sweet... I do that all the time on computers (PC's) without antivirus. (some cases more effective than antivirus :P)
I dont know about Mac though...
