Ok, i have the script all made an ready to go. Here is the problem. Im using Geocities Pro, and it will not let me upload a file named .htaccess or the htpasswd. Why is that? Also how come when I create the files, it will not let me rename it without an extension? I realize with an OS like XP, its very crucial for each file to have an extension, but how else would you rename it? On the server? Well it wont let me. Also is the .htaccess a perl script? School me, cause Im confused. I have it all good to go, with usernames and passwords why doesnt my provider provide support for this type of file?

.htaccess is not a script, it is more of a server configuration.
It only works on Apache Servers (I wouldn't be surprised if geocities was running IIS) and shared hosts do not allow users to have their own htaccess.

Check out www.virtualave.net, I have a site there that is still a free site and I am able to have .htaccess. If you are using Geocities Pro, is that a paid service? If so, how much are you paying a year and do you have your own domain? I also have my charities main site localed on a server with another company that currently untiL July 14 you can signup with them for $99.00 the first year and $70.00 per year thereafter. After July 14th, the first year goes back to $200.00, all pricing includes domain name, 600 megs of space, 25 gigs of transfer p/m, sql, ftp, unlimited email accounts, plus a lot more. I know that is might be more space than you might need, but there are options to allow other domains to link to this account and have their own sections, possible money maker for you. Email me at cdhodgdon@southernrescue.org?subject=Webhost Information

You also get your own cgi bins and access to do most anything you want to, including .htaccess and others

Southern-that would cost $72 at http://dr2.net, with less bandwidth though.

I use http://www.valueweb.com/ for one of my sites.
They let you upload the .htaccess file. The only thing is, it seems to dissappear once you upload it (auto deleted or just hidden) but the functionality you put into the .htaccess still continues to work.

BE CAREFULL with that file if you don't know exactly what you're doing. I know from experience that you can really foobar your site by uploading a misconfigured .htaccess file.
