I'm I'm a newbie here and have a basic question.

I have a Helix Media Server and want to know how I can stream mp3 audio/video files.

Can I serve them up via http on my web server and not my media server? Is this considered streaming or should I use an mms:// url?

I want to make sure users are using the Windows Media Player because it is supported on PCs and Macs.

thanks so much for any help you can provide.

If you simply put a link on a web page with the URL to the file, it will stream.
Example: http://www.yoursite.com/yoursong.mp3

This will force the viewers media player to open and play the song, or video. You cannot guarantee it will be windows media player though.

Well an mp3 for instance is usually pretty small, unless it's a really long song. Even a 5MB mp3 will start streaming on a cable connection in just a few seconds.
As far as video, you have to compress the video using some video editing software. Save it as a .wmv, or .mpeg

There is lots of software out there that converts audio and video files.
