Hello,

I've been toying with an idea lately. I wanted to start a website which would be a hybrid between a personal site/portfolio and a general IT topics site - a news/blog kind of thing in the general spirit of Web 2.0

Here's the design that I came up with:

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

looks sweet, but maybe you should add some blank text in there just to see what it would look like then.

and from what I can see it validates as well(despite the 7 or 8
s in a row.)

Thanks,
Actually it doesn't validate. I mean I written it in valid XHTML Strict, but the google search box prevents validation. I've been trying to fix that but I just gave up.. lol

As far as the
s well... this is just a temporary measure for the design phase. I always use them "just to see how it would look like"

And yes, adding some text is a great idea. I guess I just gonna add an entry from wikipidia for IT :)

could you not just edit the google adds to make them valid?

I just removed the
s (seems like they were just left-overs from whatever I've been doing to it before)

I also removed the google search box - for some reason I couldn't make them validate.. not sure what I was missing

I also added some sample text

Now the site is valid strict

I only just noticed that you force my screen wider if I shrink the browser.

I don't like that, but you do make it look good and of course it validates.

The bottom scroll-bar appear when you shrink the browser to the width of less the 800. I figured that would be reasonable... but I may be wrong ;)

it's reasonable, but I like to have 2 windows open at once, and I can't get a good view of some sites tiled horizontally, so they tend to be vertical which is where the problem comes from... it's reasonable to assume that not everyone does that though(although it's a good idea if your copying and pasting or watching your emails and a video/something)

Point well taken. I'll have to think on this one though.

Look pretty good...The only thing i don't like is the text...too small :)

How about now? I also changed the declaration of the font size to % from px, so now users can change it through the browser..

I like the color scheme a lot but the navigation buttons look sort of arbitrary. Is there a way you could position them so that they look more integrated? I'm thinking maybe about 50 px in from the bottom left corner or something similar. Maybe arrange them in a horizontal bar instead of a column.

I left some space left for another 2-3 buttons and a possible search box. That's why the navigation may look a little off. Everything is still in the initial design phase.

I would keep all the site image sizes the same
