I have just written an article on how to advertise your site for free on the internet... If you're interested in having a look at it you can read it at http://www.appsoftheweb.com/articles/advertising_your_site_for_free.htm

Feel free to post it on your own page too if you like

You used google in your example of meta tags, just thought you should know google and other popular search engines completely ignore meta tags and rank you based on content. You may want to say that in your page.

Thanks for the tip... Didn't know that actually
Do you have examples on which search engines use the meta-tags? And how do google rank importance of content?

No there are 1000s of smaller search engines, but major ones such as google and altavista ignore meta tags.

Google ranks on content, and where that content is on the page. Then it has a PageRank ranking for what keywords would bring up your site. Then it increases your ranking based on the ranking of sites that link to you.

So if you have a site about dogs, and a high traffic, major site about dogs links to you, your ranking will increase.

Here's one

(someone asked for a review of it the other day.)

And here's an article on the decline of the metatag.

I recently picked up a book about Google. Named "Google Hacks". It's pub'd by O'Reilly it was fairly cheap at my local BN it was $25.00.

I haven't used anything from it yet but it's got a ton of info.

nicely written article...should help a lot of people - that is, if youve advertised it enough, lol;)

and my little addition to the advertising scene - in order to get more users to my site, ive put up a free advertising plugger - just type in a little info about your site, and people will be able to see it...then im hoping people using it will stick around and check out my site, lol :D anyways, if you want to use it, go right ahead, you can find it here:
