Had a nice little get-together at my older sisters' place along with our parents. Hope everyone else who's celebrating had as good of a time as we did.

It's based upon the traditional concept of harvest festivals. In the US it's closely associated with one of the first European settlements here: the "Pilgrim's" settlement at Plymouth Rock. It is only somewhat religious in nature (the idea of giving thanks to whatever deity you worship for whatever you are thankful for), but is mainly centered around families getting together for a celebratory meal (traditionally serving turkey as the meat course with various traditional side dishes).

Also, as Christmas has become more commercialized, with such a big emphasis on gift-giving, Thanksgiving in the US has come to mark the beginning of the "Christmas shopping season." Many people will be out shopping today on what retailers refer to as "Black Friday" (either because it's such a hectic day, or because it's the start of the month-long period that generally determines if they'll make an overall profit for the year, i.e., "be in the black").

Its more or less a family day. All the members of the family come under one roof and share their happiness. Organisations/companies also celebrate this day to create a feeling of oneness in the organisation.

I got sick on Thanksgiving. Went to bed at like 1:30 in the afternoon, felt like **** for 7 or so hours (completely missed thanksgiving), then vomited all over my floor.
