I'm using JavaScript to document.write() the proper HTML tags to embed a Quicktime video using the OBJECT tag. It plays fine in Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox, both using different code sets. Internet Explorer 6 completely chokes. Not only does it not download the .mov file, but the Quicktime application frame doesn't appear around the object. No Quicktime controls show up.

I've been up and down the great WWW looking for a reason but I've yet to find one. I'm well aware of the Eolas lawsuit and its implications for embedded content. I've visited www.apple.com/trailers/ and I can view quicktime movie trailers just fine. I'm wondering just what the heck I'm missing so IE6 doesn't play the video, but IE7 and FF do.

Try using the codes found here instead. Though I'm not sure why you are using document.write.

I've been at this all day. We've narrowed it down to two things: Internet Explorer 6 is the bane of my existence, and we are saving the MOV file using iMovie. IE6 isn't recognizing the streaming options correctly, or something. Internet Explorer consistently ONLY downloads the first 86KB of the movie, regardless of the physical dimenions of the video and the bit and frame rates. Very peculiar. It has to be something with the video we're using, although I'm not sure what.

Initially, we were saving the movie with Garage Band using Save For CD. We tried the Save For Web menu item and magically the video started streaming just fine in IE6, but it was basically a thumbnail sized video. Too small for what we want. Saving for CD uses 15 frames per second. Saving for Web uses 12 frames per second, yet it wasn't the fps mucking things up. We just can't get the darn thing to stream for IE6.

I should also add that we've noticed this behavior with 3 different computers running IE6 as a native install. IE7 as a native install works fine. In fact, IE6 works fine and dandy on www.apple.com/trailers/ but our video won't work. It has to be something we are doing when exporting the video.

Any iMovie or Garage Band fans out there? Mac people? Hello? Bueller? Bueller?
