I've been put in charge of posting alot of audio files to my companies website. We've converted the files to mp3.

My question is this:

Some of the audio clips are 2 hours long, so the clip, even when compressed, is 80 Mbytes in size.

I know mp3's stream, but the thought of that file size makes me cringe when I think about posting it.

Is this too big for a streaming audio file? What are the optimal file sizes for audio, especially when you are dealing with long clips that can't be split up easily?

Thanks
J

4MB is the typical average size for an mp3 song file. Voice recordings tend to be a little longer. Just remember the larger the file you use the more bandwidth you will be using. Good luck.

You know you might be better off hosting the sound files somewhere else and then linking them to your server, so they don't take up any room.

Bandwidth usage is more of an issue than space usage. I suspect hosting them somewhere else would help with both of those issues.
