How are you all testing both Firefox 1 and 2 to make sure everything looks ok? I am unable to install both versions on my computer.

I have read that you can install side-by-side versions of IE6 and IE7, but haven't found it to be possible with Firefox.

Suggestions?

You should be able to install each in their own folder. It asks where you want to install so just pick a different one.

Internet Explorer is the only browser that has difficulties installing multiple versions on the one computer since part of the browser functionality is built into the Windows operating system. Other browsers such as Firefox, Opera, etc just need to be installed into separate folders on your computer in order for you to have as many versions of them as you like. There may be more recent versions that wont install on older operating systems but if your operating system will support Firefox 2.0 then all you need to do to install 1.0 and 1.5 would be to select different folders to install them in.

Hmm.. I tried to do this last night (installed firefox 2 in a different directory) and both executables ended up running Firefox 2. Anyone actually try this? Is it just me that can't get it working?

I have Firefox 1.0.7, 1.5.0.8, and 2.0 installed on WinXP. Are you sure that you aren't using a shortcut that doesn't point where you think it does?

Sorry I just tested it again, and it seems that it DID work, except I can't have both Firefox 1.x and Firefox 2 running at the same time, otherwise they run the same version. One has to be completely closed before the other will run.

Thanks!

You're welcome :)

Actually you can run them side by side, if you use this trick. (http://blog.dojotoolkit.org/2005/12/01/running-multiple-versions-of-firefox-side-by-side)

Fantastic! I'll definitely try this out; a bit of an annoyance to only have one or the other open.
