Hi All,

I've been asked by a client to add a search facility to a site to search their content. However, at the moment none of the content comes from a databse - it's all static content - and so I can't use a normal search facility.

I had wondered about using the Google Free Search facility, but this doesn't allow me to remove adverts, and customise the results as they would like.

Does anyone know of anyway in which I can search static content, without the need for anything to be installed on the server itself?

Thanks
Kessa

anyone? :(

....even if it's just to say that it's not possible, that would be helpful :o

Thanks

definitely possible. not too difficult. see Indexing Service (msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/ms692947.aspx)

Hi Russell,

Thanks for this. I've taken a look at the link provided but I notice that it says:

Before you can index content on the Web server, you must create a Web catalog for Indexing Service. Use the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) in Microsoft Windows® 2000 and later to carry out this task. You will find Indexing Service under the Server Applications and Services node in the Computer Management tree in Windows 2000 and later.

Unfortunately they want to keep their site with their current host and so I don't have access to this (to be honest, and even if they moved their hosting to us, I don't think that even our host gives us access to this)

Does that rule out this as an option? (sorry, I'm not very tech savy when it comes to server stuff :o ... but I'm willing to learn :) )

Cheers
Kessa

in that casei t is going to be much more difficult. probably have to write search yourself. how large is site? tried contacting host to see if indexing service is available ( maybe they will turn it on and build initial catalog for you )?

might be some free utilities out there, but none im familiar with
