In the past week my family has had major problems with securely deleting files in order to donate our old computer. We have been told that the only way to truly erase files is to physically damage the hard drive. The connection between a physical drive and a technological program or OS has begun to fascinate me, so I want to really learn how a green board with some shiny dots can run a complex operating system. My google searches haven't really gotten to the core of the issue: HOW DO CIRCUIT BOARDS/MOTHER BOARDS TURN A HUNK OF METAL INTO A COMPUTER OR A CALCULATOR?
I think I am crossing the deep chasm between software and hardware :p .
