What is the best way to reserve a few domain names for a few years? I am planning on opening a law firm in about three years and I wanted to go ahead and reserve several domain names now. What is the best and cheapest way to do that? I don't really care to set up anything on the pages right now, just reserve the name. I already registered one name with globat.com for $2 for the first year and $9 for each additional year. Is there a downside to doing it that way? Should I be concerned that I am not getting the "private" option that you can pay for that keeps your contact info hidden? The last thing I would want to do is register 10 or so websites and then find out that they I did something to make them all worthless three years from now.

Also, is there an advantage to having common google search terms in your domain name? Will it make your domain name appear higher in a google search? For example, if I have a business in New York that sells exotic pets called "Dave's Pets" with a website called davespets.com, would it be a good idea to register the domain name NewYorkExoticPets.com and then have that website redirect people to davespets.com? If people go to google and search New York Exotic Pets, is my website going to come up high, or even first on the list of search results since that is also my domain name?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Most registrars provide options for paying five years in advance at a maximum. Doing it this way ensures you're not stuck with the same domain name if you decide to change your name. If you don't, just remember to renew the domain name.

Adding meta tags to your pages is a standard practice. However, it will not guarantee a top placement on google or guarantee where you will show up. At best, it gives search engines a "kick" in the pants at how you would like to have your page scanned by them.
