Hi All,
I have been offline at home for a few weeks due to my broadband provider here in Scotland going bust (V21).
I am now connected with Tiscali and can browse the net ok, however, I have noticed that the speed of my BitTorrent downloads from the Linux Fedora site have been REALLY slow. Currently a download is sitting at 8Kb/s. I have a 2.2MB connection.
Is this something that many clear up in a few days or so, it's just I never had this problem at all with V21.
Thanks,
Picco

i quite possibly didn't give enough information the first time around:
Hello to all,
I am experiencing problems with regards to BitTorrent downloads since I have moved to a new ISP here in Scotland, namely Tiscali UK.
I have found out that Tiscali limit BitTorrent usage on all lines. I have also read that if you use Azareus to download torrents and if you set the Incoming TCP Port to 443 (which I believe is SSL) and set the Transfer Encryption to ON then you can get proper speeds - like i used to enjoy on AOL and the now dead V21.
However, I seem to still be experiencing this problem of slow BitTorrent downloads. It's not just some, it's all of them and i feel this is a real con on behalf of Tiscali UK!
Has anyone got any tips/hints as to how to solve this problem? I have made the changes to my settings in Azareus as I mentioned above.
The machine in question is a WinXP Pro machine. Regular browsing and HTTP Web-based downloading is fine! (Often very fast) Modem: SpeedTouch 330. Line: 2.2Mbps. Unlimited Downloads.
Any help is appreciated on this one.

I would try the bitTorent forums or drop in an IRC channel and ask.
Bandwidth and how they measure it and the number of concurrent connections your allowed as well as the local netwok topology will have a factor, you very likely to have a high contention ratio meaning that you and 50+ others are on the same node sharing possibly a low bandwidth uplink, until the other users go off line or they upgrade the local node, you will have low connection speeds, they also as you have stated limited bitTorrent so you shouldnt be surprised by getting low speeds.
You have regular ftp connections from the linux sites, so use them if you need to as it will be an easier option for you if BT isnt working for you.
Titscally BTW isn't a good company to go with and I would put my foot in my mouth and say I would rather be getting something off a rampant rhino whilst signing up for an AOL broadband connection than go with titscally.
NTL was bad enough and I dont think that they will be any better under the "Virgin" banner either....
