mencoder frustration

I am new to mencoder and found documentation hard to find .

I just want to convert video type of mov,avi,wmv,mpeg to flash types flv or swf. I have downloaded mencoder and it is installed etc.

Just a straight conversion with sound of course and that's it on the command line only ( to use in another program call).

I am still searhcing past archives and google but I spent hours already and such a basic thing (I won't go into details but my frustration limit is at breaking point).

I also tried ffmpeg but this failed to do wmv and some sound.

I want to convert movie.wmv to movie.flv:
mencoder movie.wmv -o movie.flv -ovc lavc -oac lavc

Can you share/send this to me, I will be so happy.

its really important for me bcuz my project is about converting videos in java.
if I dont complete this project, my boss will fire me.
