Hey all,
I am a beginner with web development. I am looking for some advice on one to two books to buy that are great for learning web development with tutorials, illustrations, and coding. I am looking for ASP, SQL databases, Access databases. I am using Flash to design. My main concern is creating ASP pages and form that send confirmation e-mails and queries and such. I know Visual Basic but not VB.Net so I do not want anything on ASP.Net.
Any suggestions?

Um, asp.net... asp.net uses vb dude, not just vb.net. asp.net is more vb then asp infact. asp is vb script.

If you want to learn a good easy server side programing language go with PHP. If you ask anyone who's used both ASP.NET and PHP they will tell you that PHP is so much easier then .NET. Not to dis .NET, I need to learn it yet, but that's what I've been told. I know PHP btw.

I have known vb for two years. I picked up asp.net, the framework in a month. Its not hard. It is very easy to learn and use. If you already know visual basic then you can pick up asp.net with the greatest of ease. Your friends probably did not know vb before hand or were using c# or something like that. C# is confusing I will give you that, thats why I am not using it... atleast for now.

I picked up the framework of PHP in less than a month without any experience using languages it is based on. Although I suppoes a lot of the syntax is quite like Java...

I suppose php would not be terribly difficult to pick up eather I have some experience with a language extremly similar to java called wdl, it is used with a game making program and I have a good book on java script (though I never use it) But I already knew vb so thats the cource I took, I am also glad I took it because I can make powerful dynamic pages with very little code using asp.net

Guys,
I did not realize that ASP.Net worked with VB and just VB.Net. Like I said, I was not familiar with .Net so I did not know that. Well, I will check out some books on ASP.Net. Any other books that would be good to get in the related field. My boss is paying for them so any good reference titles???
