We're wanting to do a streaming audio broadcast from home that's distributed by our website. I'm looking at using "REAL" or sometihng from Microsoft.
What's the easiest/best/easiest to configure method of doing this?
We'll be broadcasting from a microphone and there would be no video. We WOULD like to broadcast some graphics or flash, but it's not essential.
Any ideas guys?

That will be no easy task you simply cannot do it from a website alone you need to be using winsock or something to get the brodcast to your server in real time.
Well, I've uploaded all of the Real server software to my site, and I've got the other software to broadcast to it here, but I'm not able to connect successfully.
Is there an easier software package?
I think you can do it with MS Mediaplayer's equivalent, but I don't know anyone doing it now.

Are you trying to make like a live web radio type of deal that would play what you have on winamp currently or something like that or have I completly misunderstood what you talking about and you want regular streaming media. The word brodcast makes me think you want something live
Something like that . . . we have a radio show that we'd like to broadcast. We can take an input to our sound card, and we'd like to uplink that to our website using Real, MSMedia, or something like that.
It's supposed to be pretty easy to do, but we're not having any luck with it.
I was hoping someone here is doing it, has done it, or has set it up in the past.

I would tend to think it would be terribly difficult and would require an internet application on your machine using a winsock controll or some other means of connecting a socket to your server or something like that. I just sounds hard to do! Good luck because I would not know where to begin.
Neh . . . it's not too hard to do. There are too many people doing it already.
Real has the software available for free, and they explicitly say that's what it does.
Eh, I've just got to find someone who's already done it and get their advice. I've been looking for an appropriate forum, but they're few and far between.

I am a dj at a, well illegal rado station here in town and it would be cool to put a web radio on our site when we start broadcasting again in september. Tell me how to do it when you get your working :) Its mainly the people on the campus where we broadcast from who are listening and its a big t1 so there wont be any lag or chop for them on it, well unless everyone is online at one time but that never happens.
Real looks like they offer all of their stuff with enough horsepower to serve to like 50-175 people. Check out their site.
The booger is that to move up to more people, it's about two grand, and that's a big jump for us.
I can't find ANY discussion on how to set it up. Let's both look around and see what we find, eh?
Check out www.real.com for some pointers. Heck, the basic software is free.

The problem is I hate real, real player sucks! I think real in general is the spawn of satan. I mean you pay for real and then whenever you close it you get a popup ad for some company and something asking you to upgrade to pro. I use winamp or media player not real.
Well, try and find out if media player offers that service.

I have never seen media player offering anything like that. I cant find it on the site, and I doubt my copy can do it.

Are you hosting yourself because you could just run everything off of the server and it would be a heck of a lot easyer.

found it! http://www.realnetworks.com/products/media_delivery.html
MediaPlayer offers it, but the starting price is $999, and you have to be running 2003 Server (not linux).
I'll look at the site you sent and let you know how it goes.

I have a pirated copy of windows server 2k3 and I have a cable connection so I can do it as long as I dont get too many hits. I also have another comp I can run as a server.
Yeah, that might work.
Our problem is that we want to run it from our website server (remote), and getting the connections right is being a booger. The REAL server and all is loaded up, but we're not having any luck making a connection.

like I said you will need some sort of winsock application to connect to a remote data base or make any kinda remote connection. You can probably find one out there but you might need to make one yourself.
Aw heck, we found MOST of the problem. I'm going to try and hook something up tonight. We'll see how it goes . . .
I'll keep you posted.
