i have always wanted to know how big sites make there smaller sites with urls that are www.[blank].[blank].com

like ea games. you can type in www.thesims2.com and it will take you to www.thesims2.ea.com

does anybody know how to do this?

These are subdomains most hosts allow you to setup at least 1 subdomain if not unlimited subdomains (space permitting). Basically all of the files for thesims2.ea.com site are in a folder titled thesims2.
www.ea.com/thesims2/ but this varies among different sites.

Just ask your hosting provider how many (if any) subdomains you are allowed on your account, and if so where the instructions on how to do so are.
