hi, just making a site and tryig to get my own icon to display, ive made a 16x16px icon and uploaded it to the root directory of my site, its called favicon.ico but it doesnt seem to display, http://www.freewebs.com/andybezza i made my icon using paint if that has anything to do with it =p any help would be appreciated

The icon has to reside in the top level directory, at http://www.freewebs.com/favicon.ico . You may not be able to use one.

I see your icon, -in Firefox. In IE-View (how IE6 would see your page), it is just the IE-symbol... As all other sites with "favicon" do with IE. -Did you figure this out (I mean, -because it seems to be working).

erm... sorry but i dont quite get what you meen there... i use internet explorer and i can see different icons in the adress bars of other websites, but my icon comes up as the default icon :S

I don't know if its related, but you might start by fixing the validation issues with your site - http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freewebs.com%2Fandybezza%2F
For me, I see the icon in FF, but not in IE7

IE still doesn't display the favicon properly in all circumstances. Maybe they'll fix it in IE9.
