When entering a reply and being at that page for a relatively long time, say 20 minutes or more (be it for leaving the computer for a time or doing some research before finishing a post or whatever) and then push reply, the forum seems to have logged me out in that time and asks me to log in again. I do so, but instead of continuing to post the reply I get an error message saying no thread specified. I try to go back to the reply form and it again presents me with a log in page. I can't get back to the textarea where I typed everything in and nothing was posted, and my entire reply is lost (and it conveniently is usually a long one when I am affected by this).

I've had that trouble too. Guess I'll have to learn to type faster lol

Been there done that... Sadly!
One habbit I adopted long ago was to copy and past my post to Word. Not just for grammer and spell checking but as a holder should something happen.
It seems the few times I wouldnt follow that method is just the very times it would happen.
However what can be done to fix it? I'll look and see if it's possible to extend the session id time. Which if i had to guess is key to your problem.

I found the setting... I'll ask Richard to make sure it's ok that I modify the time to double the time from 15 to 30 minutes.
Timeout for Cookie
This is the time in seconds that a user must remain inactive before the unread posts are reset to read.
It's currently set for 900 seconds
