Okay..after I fixed up my computer and cleaned out files I no longer needed I experienced another odd occurance.

You know that little window on the browser window that show a spinning icon of Microsoft or Netscape (or whatever)?

Well..I noticed that along with the spinning earth globe around the Microsoft symbol I seen another icon repeatedly flashing along with it which belonged to anothe ISP I used but no longer have...

I cleared out those particular settings long ago and even searched all my files for leftovers of any imbedded cookies and so forth left by my former ISP provider but to no avail..so I am wondering how do I find and eliminate the intruding icon.

P.S...I used to have MindSpring at one time so that is the icon that is flashing..it even will say "Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by MindSpring"!..Weird, huh?

You could unistall the browser and then reinstall.

Yeah, I suppose I could try that.

same thing happened to me when I installed AOL on one of my computers (should have known better)...

the little IE icon was replaced by an AOL icon and my IE became "IE Powered by AOL"

how annoying...but then, thats AOL for ya'

I never uninstalled IE to try to get it back to normal, but when I uninstalled AOL it did NOT revert my browser back...

Heh, yet another reason to steer clear of AOL.

What is strange is that when I cancelled MindSpring, I uninstalled their software and manually deleted the files that the uninstall program left behind...so I tried using Windows "Find" feature but I got nothing..so they (MindSpring) must've imbedded a file really deep.

its probably buried inside some config file for IE...it happened to me when i switched from Rogers to Sympatico...the rogers logo stayed until our comp screwed up and we had to reformat anyways, lol...but the image file must be stored somewhere....strange:confused:

Yeah..however I am leary at the thought of messing around with config. files and the like...because I don't really know what is what and I really do not relish the idea of re-formatting the drive and re-installing all the hardware drivers again..a really big pain in the posterior.

But I will look again, I may find a file I recognize...maybe.

Just lettin' ya all know...IE CANNOT be uninstalled...I tried it once and it screwed up my comp...Netscape CAN be uninstalled though, it doesn't have any necessary files that need to be there for Windows...

That's an option that an ISP can use to personallize Internet Explorer. I made a couple of custom installs when I used to work for an ISP.

It's written into a DLL so it's going to be hard to get out and I dont recall which file you can replace to fix it right now... I'll look it up when I get home.

However if your not running the most current version you can upgrade and it should replace the file that's causing it.
