I'm a senior in high school, and on the robotics team. We design, prototype, build, etc. a robot to compete with in regional and national competition. One of the many aspects of the team is to create a website. Let me know what you think: http://www.chargersrobotics.com

I have a few things I don't like.
1) How the link that is the page you're viewing is set underneath all the others. I like how it's a different color, but I don't think it looks happy and symmetrical; rather, it looks out of place.
2) Your news boxes have a little too much going on within them. The change in blue is a little distracting; I'd rather have the inside of the news boxes be white and the background of the page have that blue stuff. You always want your text to be readable - and it's much easier when it's background is lighter than other things on the page.

That's a pretty cool club, wish they had a build-a-killer-death-robot club when I was in school.
The main problem you're facing with this site (at least graphically) is balance and alignment with your elements. The items on the left and right of the news boxes are huge. Maybe these elements could be organized into the header or footer of the page. The title, menu under the title, home text, and news boxes all need to be aligned to the left or centered.

Yea, the news boxes are way too small. It's hard to read when you have to change lines every few words.

Your content shouldn't be based around the size of images in your background, but rather the other way around.
The best thing to do in your case is to get rid of your news images. Use css and divs with % for sizes instead of your images with fixed sizes.
