My web site is undergoing some upgrades in the area of on-line audio, specifically streaming. I've also recently upgraded to cable access, so I am getting a chance to see what I have been missing.

When I recently upgraded to Real One, my old audio posted with Real Producer 8.0 would not play. As I look at that problem, I also consider that one of my main collaborators uses Apple products, and prefers QuickTime. We have also been playing with Flash demos and are excited about those possibilities.

Are there any statistics or studies that show what users prefer, or are we pretty much stuck trying to please everyone (impossible)? If I had to invest in new audio authoring software, what would be my smartest investment? Most of my listeners probably won't have cable/DSL, but I would like to have the option of having both possibilities. Is there a program that auhtors to multiple formats/resolutions?

Any help via email appreciated: jjdmdsp@ptd.net

Joe welcome to the site... however it's not proper to ask for emails. Simply because others could very well benifit from your question and the answers that follow.

I personally avoid Real Player the best I can...
I don't think the general public think about Quicktime and audio, it's mostly Video. (for video there isn't much better)

I would at least take a look at Windows Media (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/)

Granted many of your 'collaborators' use Apple... The Tools that come in the Windows Media pack should do the trick without issue.
