Hi all - hm, I don't know where to put this. >.<

I'm currently doing a project that tries to convert locations into longitude and latitude. I was wondering if anyone know of a provider that allows people to tab into their database to extract such information. For example, if I was to type in New York, USA - it will then find the location and take out the coordinates.

Does anyone know if anything like that exists? I know that there are GPS converters but I require something more general with city + country.

Thanks.

P.S. I will be using php to connect to the provider.

Also, is it possible to connect to other databases that is not yours? Partly hacking but legally as in with given permission. :(

Good Morning:

Google Earth will give you the coordinates - bottom right corner.

Google Maps also has a public API so you can gather that info using JavaScript.

You might also want to try Microsoft's Virtual Earth, which also offers a free API -- http://viavirtualearth.com/VVE/Gallery/Default.ashx
