Here's the situation: I'm linking to a window media video (wmv) which is inside a secure site. When I select the link in IE, video plays fine. When I attempt to play the video in Firefox or Opera, I get the following error:

"The file you are attempting to play has an extension that does not match the file format. Playing the file may result in unexpected behavior". Then the file cant be played."

I've googled for the past hour and have found nothing. Any idea why Firefox and Opera are appending this as the URL for the video inside the secure site?

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Do you know if your Firefox has the proper extensions applied to play the format? How are you adding the video to your website? Can you test it without SSL?

Firefox has the correct extensions to play it. The video is played by clicking a link. The video works w/out SSL perfectly. I'm beginning to wonder if its a problem with Windows Media Player (WMP) or Apache.

And how are you embedding it? Are you calling any classes from the MS website? Bye Bye Embed (http://www.alistapart.com/articles/byebyeembed/) might help some as well.

It's as simple as a link:

Click my video

The link has a normal anchor tag, no embedding, no function calling, is occurring.

Seems like a bug - somewhere. I just tried it in Firefox and received the same error - one point to http and one to https actually

I asked over in the MVP board for Windows Media and the International Web Developers Network - but came up with nothing.

I also attempted to replicate in Opera and I got the same error. For whatever reason it wants http or rtsp, nothing else.
