Need career advice:

I need some serious advice.
Ten months ago, I bought a few beginner books about html, css, asp.net 2.0 and I followed online classes in ASP.net, VB,.Net et MS SQL and MS Access.
My goal is to become a web developer/programmer.
I am not good at graphics design, animation... and I don’t like that.
Here is what I am capable of doing using the above languages/softwares:
-Design data entry forms using ASP.Net 2.0
-Design Databases in Access and SQL
-Build search engines.
-Stored procedures.
-I know a bit about OOP (classes, methods, properties….).

Since I have ZERO experience and since I don’t have any degree yet in this field, I figured that the only way for me to start putting my knowledge into practice would by doing volunteer work for small businesses( Ex someone that wants to add a form, someone that needs a simple custom shopping cart). After 4 months of volunteer work, I intend to start on the MCAD and from there, I should have a portfolio and a certification ( or at least a partical certification) that will allow me to freelance or to find a job.
At this point, I don’t care about money. I need the experience.
I am fortunate to be married to a web developer/programmer that has 8 years of experience. My husband helped me during my learning process and I can count on him to help me out on my projects.

The only degree I have is a Bachelor in Business administration.

How did you start your web development / programming career?

Do you know any websites where I could list my services? Besides Craig’s list, I have not really found anything. I know that many small businesses would be interested in me yet I am having trouble finding them.

Any insight would be very helpful.

Thank you.

I bought and built an Elf II kit somewhere around 1975. :)
Any insight would be very helpful.Start by applying what you already know about business and concentrate learning how to define the requirements for a site based on the business needs of the client. Look to non-profits as well as small businesses for experience.
