Button cropping

Hello, I have jsut made a button using GIMP but do not know how to crop it so that i dont have any background on it. I dont want a big white thing where my button is soposed to go. Any suggestions? I Only have GIMP(No Photoshop)

Try this to crop only around the button (select not too far from the button) http://carol.gimp.org/gimp2/basics/gimplite/crop.html, then make background of image as transparent, then save the button as .gif instead of jpg. So when you embed it in a webpage of any background color, the button will only show the button, no white background around it.
