Ok. This post may not be in the right place. If this is the case, it's because I know HTML/CSS and very little more. What I'm trying to say is, I'm dumb. ;) Ok, "lacking certain programming related knowledge" may be a better way to say it.

I'm not looking to learn PHP. Instead, I have this idea for a site I want to make, but I can't make it because I lack the skills and am not really interested in learning them. I think PHP may be one of these skills.

The site is pretty straightforward. There is a database that already exists. It's available in both "ASCII" and "Access" form. I want to make a site that is, for the most part, based solely on searching/using this database.

Above is the part that I think PHP would be used for. Keywords there are "I think." If that's true, then I didn't post this in the wrong forum after all. :)

As for the site itself, I want it to be simple, clean, fast and slick. I also want AJAX to be used. This I know is Javascript. Basically, I'm looking to make a Web 2.0 style site that is built around searching/using this database.

My question is... who, what, where, when, why and how? Is this a big job? Small job? How long do you think it would take? How much do you think it would cost? What skills would the person who does this job for me need to possess? How am I supposed to describe what I need in a way that sounds a little more coherent than this post?

I realize I only gave a general description so I'd expect nothing more than a general response.

Again, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum since I never really asked a PHP specific question, but I wasn't sure where else to post this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

yes, PHP is a good tool to use to "search and use" a database. It is primarily designed to use a mySQL database.

As for your other questions:

Q: I want to buy a vehicle. How much will it cost?
A: Do you want a trike or a space shuttle?

You said you want to get stuff from a database... you can do that with five lines of code on a single page, or millions of lines of code on thousands of pages.

Your going to have to be more specific.

I have this idea for a site I want to make, but I can't make it because I lack the skills and am not really interested in learning them.

Sorry, we do not permit discussion of or about prices and jobs in general.

I suggest you rephrase your question and ask exactly what technologies would be required for such a project to be completed, merge the answers into a job description and post them on one of the various online Job Boards.
