hi,

How do you create a naviagtion bar that is a bar shape for half of it, then increases at a 45 deg angle for a few pixels and then leveling off again horizontal. So it is like the naviagation bar in hotmail.

Is this 1 shape or a combination of shapes, how is this created?

This would be a graphic... either an image map or a more search engine friendly sliced jpg.

The graphic has the space for tabs usually but it isn't tabs.
A narrow rectangle shape then increases at 1 end 45deg about then the rectangle is wider so it looks like a a bar with 2 section heights. The tabs would then fit in on the higher part. It is very common.

This is rather simple tbh, merely requires a little thinking out of the box. Consider the graphic as one piece of artwork with 3 elements: 1. The larger bar, 2. The tapered element, 3. The smaller bar. Of course you could reduce this to 2 elements (1 and 2 making a single element). Slice your image into the required elements (1 or 2) and repeat the smaller element the amount of times required to extend the bar. Your background colour should also be included in the image.
If this all sounds a little confusing its prob better explained simply by looking at what hotmail have used: http://hp.msn.com/c/hotmail/fin.jpg

I'm making a presumption that you know how to create these elements in your graphics app.

Looks like "tabs" that a folder would have (but more stylized, of course). This could be easily created with just about any graphics software.
