so where do i start?

i have downloaded the XAMPP 1.6 dev for windows xp. installation is a success. however the XAMPP Control panel has unchecked APache service? with MYSQL and Filezilla checked and running. so do i need the Apache box to be checked? any particular configurations i should set the current settings to? and how do i start about my first PHP? that should be enuf to set me coding. i'm itching to code...:D

lol. at first, you will probly need Apache on to work with your localhost. second, you need to define what kind of site you want, with what kind of information. preparation is a great ally.
