My windows update history at windowsupdate.microsoft.com does not match the windows update icon at the bottom of my computer or System Restore. It keeps on reminding me to update a Security Patch on a daily basis.

How can I synchronize windows update so the information provided at the windows icon=the history of all updates provided at windowsupdate.microsoft.com=windowsupdate.microsoft.com scan=system restore.

At the moment, they do not agree. The only items that equal each other are windows icon=windowsupdate.microsoft.com scan. It does not match system restore or history of all updates.

My O/S is Windows XP Media Center. How can I configure my system so this problem does not occur again.

If I remember from my Windozing days, the update is intricately tied in with Internet Explorer. So if the reminder gizmo is out of date then I'd try purging Internet Explorer's cache. There should be an option to clean/purge/delete the cache under "Internet Options" or such like.

It made no difference. I tried to clear my history, temporary internet files, and cookies, and recent files. Then I turned off my system.

When I turned it back on the update icon was still there.
