my roomate have the swl-2300 wireless card in his laptop and DID find the software for it but its not working.... but im looking for a better software thats universal that he can use to connect to the wireless access point because windows xp built in utility is garbage.... can anyone tell me some of the top ones????

You need to use the drivers and software for that card, you cannot just use any and theirs no such thing as a generic controler, either XP will have drivers for it already or you need to supply them yourself.

By going to the manufacturers or vendors site, looking up the product by its model numner, you will be offered up the appropriate drivers and software to set up the card.

As for the not working bit, you would need to uninstall and reboot, then do a fresh install, allowing windows to look for the drivers is always bad as it will always install its own over 3rd party so you need to navigate to the .inf file to install the drivers from a specific location to force XP into accepting those drivers.

I experienced a similar issue with my Linksys card and thats how I resolved it and found out that XP is a royal pain when it comes to drivers.
